Trying to stay afloat being in a band is tough.
People basically get music for free and are less inclined to spend their cash on luxury items (such as albums - which are comparatively expensive).
This is compounded by the fact that the proliferation of music makes it seem almost valueless.

So,
Let's get back to public subscription.
If people reward an artist directly they could do so reasonably.
I think that most people would be happy to reward a band or individual who has contributed to and augmented the quality of their life with their music with a small donation; knowing that they were directly rewarding the artist, and helping them to keep creating.

So that's the premise.
In relation to our own donation button, we're happy to receive anything at all to help us carry on.
